Date of Birth.

We got a lot of feedback about taking "Date of Birth" from donors as a validation process that a Patients Relative has contacted a donor . Quite a few of our donors refused to divulge date of birth to unknow people, they said that date of birth is used for financial verification .

We respect our donors feedback and have agreed not to used "Donors Date of Birth" as a validation process.

We are grateful to our Donors like Mr Manish Keshwani, Mr Shrikant , Ramesh Anna, and other who are coming up with New Ideas to avoid misuse of Donors List.

Wish you too a Happy New Year. Also, I salute you for providing this service to people all over. It is indeed a noble service! Thank you! I would however, like to express my reservations against the system you have described below. I would like to understand why it is essential for the user (patient's relative/friend) to provide feedback? What sort of feedback are you expecting, and why do you need it? People need blood only in a time of crisis - and at this time it is not advisable to limit the user's access to the blood donor's database, till they have provided feedback. It is obvious that the users will not be in a state of mind to give appropriate feedback.

As an alternative, I suggest that you collect the user's phone number and/or email address and contact them a month or 2 months after they have come to the website for donors, and ask them for feedback at that time. Not allowing them to access the list of blood donor's in their time of need isn't quite practical, and prevents the website from serving its purpose. These are just my 2 cents :) hope you consider them.

And congratulations yet again on your wonderful initiative. While I understand the irritation that you may be experiencing about users not leaving proper feedback, and thus affecting the quality of the data available, does it make sense to make things more difficult for the patients or their relatives at a time when they would already be under stress? Also, on more than one occasion, I noticed that it was not the patient/familywho had done the browsing and locating but some helpful volunteer.... perhaps this could be the reason that the subsequent information is not being completed.

I regret that I do not have any constructive suggestion to help counter the above problem - perhaps by requesting the donors to come back and givefeedback? Wouldn't it be possible to setup an SMS-based mechanism to gather feedback, as most users and donors would have this.I also wish you the best of the season..... hope the year ahead is rewarding and fulfilling.

DOB is routinely used by credit card companies and banks for ID verifictaionon telephonic calls.I certainly would not at all be keen on sharing the same to any anonymousphone caller.You may think of another modality to identify, if this MISUSE is actuallysuch a big and un-handlabale issue.regards,

I think your new plan is good. I have altogether donated blood 5 times through your website, but i have felt that the goodwill of blood donors are being exploited upon by people who need blood. They take websites like indianblooddonors to be a site that can be taken for granted and are thankless after they get blood.

I suggest we need to get any next of kin of every blood needer to register in your site and use the details to donate blood at any place before they want blood through indianblooddonors.com. We should not route blood unless any next of kin has also donated blood. Let us not cater to exploitative selfish needs of blood needers who never care to donate blood.

I say we should promote "Receive blood only if you can donate blood" policy.

Suggestion about New System from Mr Ajit Limaye

Hi,

While I understand that the feature you have introduced may not been used by users for feedback, I do not support publishing my or anyone else's date of birth on a website. A date of birth is used most of the times for identifying one for financial transactions such as credit card balances and verifications at bank as well as immigration related formalities. Instead of the date of birth, you can introduce a donor id as a required field and then proceed with the same procedure as earlier. I hope it helps.
